The Learning Hub is fundraising to provide our tutoring staff (undergraduate and graduate students) with professional development and supplemental resources. These would include physical copies of style guides, study materials for standardized tests and other content areas, and conference/webinar attendance.
Funding for our student workers and teaching assistants would benefit the UIS community by improving their skills and augmenting our certified tutor training program with additional opportunities to learn about the field of learning assistance. It will also benefit the individual students by augmenting their experiential learning through their employment in The Hub with these additional opportunities.
Every dollar we raise can help us reach our goal. Several local conferences and digital webinars cost as little as $25 for registration. Institutional licenses for multiple attendees may cost a little more, but that would allow us to share the resources more widely. Style manuals such as the new 18th edition of the Chicago Manual of Style (CMOS) can cost anywhere between $30 and $60 apiece.
